About KVMRT Putrajaya Line

The KVMRT Putrajaya Line, also known as the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line, is a 52.2 km long Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Malaysia. The line connects the cities of Sungai Buloh and Putrajaya, with 37 stations in total, including 11 underground stations and 26 elevated stations. It is part of the larger Klang Valley MRT network, which is aimed at improving Malaysia’s urban transport infrastructure.

The line is designed to serve high-density areas along its route, including residential and commercial areas, government offices, and educational institutions. It also provides connectivity to other public transport systems, such as buses and light rail transit (LRT) lines. The line is expected to carry up to 529,000 passengers per day, reducing traffic congestion and improving accessibility to various destinations in the Klang Valley.

The construction of the KVMRT Putrajaya Line was a massive undertaking, involving the expertise and collaboration of multiple stakeholders, including the Malaysian government, MRT Corporation (MRT Corp), and various contractors and consultants. The project was completed in several phases, with the first section of the line from Sungai Buloh to Semantan opening in December 2016, followed by the second section from Semantan to Kajang in July 2017, and the final section from Kajang to Putrajaya in November 2022.

One of the key challenges faced during the construction of the KVMRT Putrajaya Line was ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding environment and communities. Measures were taken to mitigate the impact of noise, dust, and vibration, and to ensure the safety of workers and the public. The project also incorporated various sustainable features, such as rainwater harvesting and energy-efficient lighting, to minimize its environmental footprint.

Our role in this Project

As the Project Management Consultant, PMCC’s responsibilities included system integration and interface management between the various railways systems, civil, M&E systems, ECS, and underground/tunnel systems. Additionally, our Team managed the testing and commissioning phase, including partial acceptance tests, systems/site acceptance tests, interface tests, and systems integration testing. We prepared the SIT test plan and reviewed all test procedures to ensure optimal performance. Moreover, PMCC was also responsible for the overall management and leading of the fault-free running of each of the forty-nine (49) electric train sets until completion of the 2000KM fault-free run.

The Team also played a critical role in the planning, strategising, monitoring, and controlling of the entire testing & commissioning phase, including the closure of outstanding items/snag list. We were also responsible for planning, strategising, executing, testing, and commissioning on the migration of the entire existing system into the new system for seamless operation. PMCC also managed and coordinated with local authorities for inspection prior to handing over to the client/operators.

We supported the entire trial operation, including its test cases for the railway operators, reviewed all trial operation test cases, and its overall execution. Additionally,  we also supported the handing-over process, including coordinating the submission of O&M and As-Builts.

Key Highlights

The KVMRT Putrajaya Line project achieved remarkable outcomes despite facing numerous challenges. Our value-added brainstorming activities and robust mitigation strategies ensured that the Testing and Commissioning phase was delivered within the allocated schedule, despite the impact of the pandemic, and a severe flood situation. With our seamless stakeholder management between two different railway operators and the development of a comprehensive migration strategy over two years, it led to a successful migration with zero accidents or impact on existing operations.

Furthermore, by integrating IR 4.0 and digitalization, we were able to significantly reduce resource costs and elevate project processes to a more contemporary, technologically advanced level. This resulted in exponential increases in productivity and the mitigation of delays and resource shortages that would have otherwise impacted the project’s success.

What we can do for your projects

Being involved in numerous mega projects since 2007, the PMCC team bags vast experience not only from a technical aspect with all the integration, complexity, and interfacing, it is also from the human aspect to consider performing over a long period with many different stakeholders. We are driven by values and purpose and bring exceptional motivation, knowledge, and experience to the table. We are flexible and independent with software solutions, contract models, contractors, and suppliers.

Additional to our expertise, we also do knowledge transfer by mentoring, coaching, and training our clients to enable their teams to grow with the processes we apply and eventually run future projects on their own.
